What were you doing in terms of health and fitness prior to joining CrossFit Goose Creek? How were your results?

The last thing I had done was a program geared towards strength workouts throughout pregnancy, as I was pregnant with our last baby. Immediately prior I had not worked out in months thanks to Covid shutdown and 3 kids under 4.5 being home 24/7. It wasn’t a priority at the time.

What made you decide to join CrossFit Goose Creek and either try or continue CrossFit?

A lot of my close girlfriends had joined a couple of months prior and were loving their experiences. Once I turned 35 I was at my heaviest and had lots of aches and pains I had never experienced before that I felt were a direct result of my overall health. As I reflected on that birthday I decided it was time to prioritize my own health and wellness so I could be around for my kids and husband and feel HEALTHY!

What changes or results have you noticed since joining CrossFit Goose Creek?

Everything. I have lost 29 pounds and 23 total inches since I started 9 months ago. But besides the numbers, I am stronger than I have ever been, feel more confident, and my kids see an example of a mama putting her health as a priority. As our daughter Olivia says, “you do your workouts so you can run around and play with us, right mom?”

What is your favorite part about CrossFit Goose Creek?

The community. The encouragement. The constant drive to push yourself, but safely doing so. I’m no spring chicken and I have definitely hit some milestones in the gym that I didn’t think would happen, especially in such a short period of time. Plus, I like sometimes competing with my husband haha!

Is there anything else you would like to mention?

This gym and community of individuals is doing *hopefully* just what they set out to do. Encourage those to be a better version of themselves (looking at you, Adam and Katie.) And to all the mamas out there, once you are ready to set yourself as a priority, you WILL succeed. And always remember the results are not a sprint, but a marathon.

What were you doing in terms of health and fitness prior to joining CrossFit Goose Creek? How were your results?

I was sitting in front of my computer and not eating properly. I was not motivated to move or to put myself in a position to look or feel better. I had been intermittently connected to other CrossFit boxes in the area but during the stay-at-home order, I stopped all fitness and stopped paying attention to my health.

What made you decide to join CrossFit Goose Creek and either try or continue CrossFit?

I am a Type I diabetic. I watched my blood sugar number rise and rise with no end. I ate everything I saw and didn’t care if it was sugar or something “healthy.” I weighed myself once and that number for me was 218 pounds. And, it wasn’t the fun version of 218.

What changes or results have you noticed since joining CrossFit Goose Creek?

In the course of the one year that I have been with CFGC, I have lost 30 lbs of fat. I put on 15 lbs of muscle and currently weigh in at 200 lbs. I am stronger than I think I have ever been. I have added roughly 10-20 lbs on to each bar movement and have added 75 lbs onto my deadlift. I am more upset missing a morning than I am about missing a meal now. That in of itself is huge. Also, my A1C went from 14.2 down to 7.9.

What is your favorite part about CrossFit Goose Creek?

The 5:30 AM class for me is what makes this place so special. There is a group of guys that I typically work out with that all hold each other accountable. They text if you miss a class to wonder why you weren’t there. They also push you to add 5-10 more lbs to reach that next PR. The support goes well beyond the CFGC facility. I was in the hospital last year and there were a few that consistently texted my wife to make sure I was ok and if there was anything they could do to help out so she could focus on what was necessary. These men are what make the community of CFGC so special. I wouldn’t trade that piece for anything. There is more laughing and encouragement than I have felt at any other box. There is still the competition but never in a way to put someone down. We are all only trying to beat the yesterday me. The ladies in the same class are just a fierce and supportive and we would not be a 5:30 AM class family without them.

Is there anything else you would like to mention?

When I started CrossFit, it was always thinking that I had to be the best in the room, in the class, or in the sport. That was the wrong mindset. Now, I just need to be better than yesterday me. My deadlift is my favorite barbell movement. When I started at CFGC, I was at a 305 pound deadlift, I recently did 2 reps at 375 and now have my sights set on that 400 pound marker. I am very happy here.

“After two children less than two years apart, and knowing our family was officially complete, it was time for me to become a better and healthier me for myself and my family. In July of 2019, I quit drinking sodas cold turkey – I was drinking over a liter a day and lost about ten pounds from that alone in one year. I was watching what I was eating more but I have never been one to workout. The last time I had worked out regularly was training for a half-marathon and I hated the early mornings and monotonous running.

In May of 2020, Katie Gray posted in our neighborhood’s Mom Facebook page about Envigor45 boot camp. Something about it caught my attention. It sounded different and I was quickly recruited some neighborhood friends to join me for the trial week. I completed my first week of Envigor45 on June 5th, 2020. I was sore, but felt a sense of community and judgement free encouragement. I especially enjoyed the variety of workouts, small class sizes, and professional assistance from the coaches.

After my trial week, I proudly signed up and officially joined the flock at CFGC. Five months later, I have lost over 14 inches and 12 pounds. I haven’t seen my current weight since 2012 and I’m feeling and seeing muscles that I have never had. CFGC has changed my life for the better. I actually look forward to working out now, especially with the friends I’ve convinced to join me on this journey. I am so thankful for the encouraging and supportive coaches who have helped me along the way and I look forward to seeing all the progress made next June!”

“I joined CrossFit Goose Creek a little over a year ago. I wasn’t doing anything before I started working out here. Several years ago I did some cardio and I lost a little weight, but two or three years before coming to CrossFit I was eating, working, and sleeping. That was it. So, definitely no working out.

I had never lifted weights in my life before CrossFit. That’s kind of what made me never consider it until I had a friend bring me here. I’d never done any of the movements; power snatch, power clean, deadlift, none of that and it was all very intimidating. The coach did a good job teaching me and let me go slow and go light weight until I knew what I was doing so I didn’t hurt myself.

Honestly, I came to CrossFit Goose Creek out of a little bit of a mental health crisis. I was in a bad spot and not taking good care of myself, emotionally and physically. Then I just decided I had to make myself a bigger priority. So, my friend invited me. I showed up and started going in the early morning. It was really good for me to get into that rhythm, get my heart rate up, and start doing things that would help me better take care of myself.

From the three years after I was doing cardio to not doing anything, I had gained probably twenty-five to thirty pounds in the last 15 months or so. I’ve lost I think around 30 pounds now, but I built a lot of muscle. My wife says, “I’ve never seen a Matt with muscle.” and now she gets to see one with at least a little bit of muscle. It’s been great!

My favorite part has been the community here at CrossFit Goose Creek. You know, I heard it before about CrossFit, that it was the community, and it really was. So, for me it’s the rhythm of getting up in the morning getting a workout in, but also just the motivation to see the people I get to see every morning. They’re honestly like my most consistent friends. I have other friends outside the gym but I don’t see them every day. The friends I’ve made inside the gym I get to see every single morning and that community has been huge for me. The life rhythm of taking care of myself physically, making my health and my fitness a priority, it’s genuinely been life-changing.

Being down over 30 pounds in the last fifteen, sixteen months; that’s been great but it’s also just feeling better, sleeping better, eating better, taking better care of myself. CrossFit Goose Creek genuinely has changed my life and has had a huge impact on me.”

Like a lot of folks, I put on weight during college and then never truly got rid of it.  I’ve tried every possible workout routine or diet fad you could think of over the last fifteen years with varying degrees of success.  I’ve always been able to lose weight really quickly when I wanted to, but I’ve never been able to sustain it.  For me, it was always about the quick fix and never about anything long term.  Slowly but surely, I have always gained the weight back, plus some.  

I tried CrossFit a few times before at a few different gyms and generally enjoyed it, but like most routines up until now, it hadn’t really stuck.  In the fall of 2019, I reached a low point.  I was the heaviest I’d ever been.  I felt exhausted every single day.  I wasn’t able to give my wife and kids the energy and attention that they deserved.  I generally just didn’t have enough energy to enjoy the life we wanted, and I knew that something needed to change.  We had just moved to Spring Hill, and noticed that CFGC had just recently opened up a gym a few minutes from our house.  I set up a 1:1 with Adam and haven’t looked back since.

There are no amount of words that can possibly do justice to how CrossFit Goose Creek and its team have changed my life.  This isn’t just a fitness change; this isn’t just a nutrition change; this isn’t a fad.  This team has helped me create a new, long-term sustainable lifestyle.  On my first day of CrossFit, I couldn’t run 400m without stopping to walk.  Just last month, I competed in my first CrossFit competition.  In just over a year, I have lost 35 pounds and 46 total inches.  There are gyms on every street in Nashville, but what sets this one apart is it’s people.  This is a community.  Adam and Katie are caring and passionate in everything they do, and you can feel that energy every time you walk in the door.  I was not capable of making the life changes I’ve made on my own.  History had shown me that I needed help, and I’ve gotten it from every single person I’ve encountered along the way here.  From the owners, to each individual coach who has worked with me, to every person who I’ve worked out with on a regular basis – this is the most inclusive and supportive group of people I’ve met, and they kept me going on days when I wanted to quit.  The most exciting part to me is that my journey is just getting started.  I’m in the best shape of my life at 35, and Adam and his team have given me the knowledge, coaching and support I need to continue getting better every single day.”

“When I moved here last year I was not looking to join a CrossFit gym but after reading the reviews it seemed like a cool community – I gave it a try and have not looked back. The coaches and members are SO welcoming and encouraging to one another. It is truly a community unlike any gym I’ve been a part of before.

I can sometimes feel intimidated by intense workouts, but not here. The scaling options and encouragement by coaches and other members make each work out doable. “I’d been in a fitness slump for a while, and have always been hesitant to try CrossFit. I told myself I needed to get out of my comfort zone and sign up for a membership. When I first met Adam and his team, I told them that I needed to change the way I looked at exercise and nutrition – specifically doing away with bad habits of over exercising (cardio) and yo-yo dieting that had left my weight in constant fluctuation.

With consistency in the gym, and enrolling in the gym’s Nutrition Coaching, I lost 15 pounds in less than three months. It hasn’t always been easy, but Adam’s specific nutrition plan and weekly check-ins made it extremely doable. I’ve now got my sights set on other phases of the program, like muscle gain, to help me continue to reach my strength goals, and to become even more confident in myself inside and outside the gym.

I can’t say enough about the coaches and community here at CFGC. The support from other members (both new and experienced) has been fantastic. During this year, I became a new dad and had foot surgery – two things that could have easily set me back on my fitness goals. Thanks to supportive trainers, fellow CFGC members, and a flexible nutrition plan, I’ve still been able to hit my goals.”

“At age 45, it was becoming evident that exercise was not consistently a part of my life. I was very unhappy with how I looked and felt.  At the suggestion of my brother and sister in law, who are members of CrossFit Goose Creek, I stopped by and met Adam and Katie Gray. Little did I know then just how much my life was about to change. 

Not long after going to classes I knew I wanted to stay. Adam and every coach there are so helpful and supportive, regardless of where you are in your fitness journey. But it wasn’t just them, Every.Single.Person in there was supportive. Offering assistance and cheering you on!

“If you are reading this it is because you have question about CrossFit and what it is. This is my story of what it is to me.

I am 42 years old and I decided to give CrossFit a try this year. Immmediately upon attending the workouts, I realized I had been wasting my money and time before with a trainer at a another gym. The CrossFit Goose Creek facility is great. The coaches at CFGC are awesome, they have pushed me and encouraged me along the way. I have learned the benefits being part of a group.

There is no intimidation, NONE. Everyone works hard, cheering each other on in each of the WODs no mater what your level is. I Love being a part of the CFGC family and the encouragement and the coaching they give. Is CrossFit easy? No. But is any life change? Because that is what I believe CrossFit is. You have to want make a lifestyle change. That is the hardest part. It isn’t about how much you can lift or fast you can run. You have to have the desire to make the change and show up. There isn’t a magic pill or drink. I have consistently showed up and wanted the change. You learn it matters what you fuel your body with and do your best on the workout of the day.

My whole wardrobe has changed, and I’m feeling stronger and better than I have in years. Consistency and the desire to see a change in yourself is the key. All of the coaches at CFGC and the people are excellent. They will push you to do the best you can. I’m not yet we’re I want to be but I can see it coming.
